Default odd throttle activity

Having an interesting problem. Highway speeds above 50mph or so, when the torque converter locks up everything functions fine. However, occasionally when I take my foot off the throttle its as if it's still there. I take my foot off the gas and the rpm's stay the same and the car maintains the same speed or almost the same speed until I hit the brake and the torque converter unlocks. Almost as if the cruise is engaged. The problem only happens on some trips, on and off. The car also idles slightly high only occasionally, about 1k rpm's until i touch the throttle or shift out of park then its completely normal. I thought perhaps a sticky throttle but i lubricated the linkages and checked the cables and it seems fine. No problems at around town speeds and no stalling. I have had an on and off check engine light for a couple weeks and haven't had time to bring it in to the shop, hopefully tomorrow, but this is occuring when the light is off as well. I'm just hoping it's not a trans issue. I change the fluid religiously every 15k and it operates perfectly otherwise.

Even if the check engine light goes off, the codes should still be in the system, even p/d (pending codes) can show up that way. A lot of car parts places, like Autozone, can read the codes for free.

remedy the code issue. if it is a solenoid or transmission code could explain a lot. how many miles? i am assuming 99k on a 97ES? transmission issues at that mileage are not out of the question. with fluid changes every 15k, lets hope its an electrical solenoid or valve body issue and not mechanical..

or i could be totally wrong.. keep us posted.

Mine did the same thing.
Can't remember what the intermittent code was P0102? maybe, but a new throttle position sensor was the repair.
I bought mine through Amazon.com believe it or not for 23 bucks plus 4 for shipping.
Look for a Beck Arnley one on autozone or somewhere to get the part number then search at Amazon. When the engine control computer sees the brakes applied it chops the fuel injectors to idle, that's why it slows up when you tap the brakes not TC.
Put an ohm meter on it turn though the range and I bet you find a flaky spot.

I still haven't gotten the code pulled as i've been driving the camry, but it's funny you should say that, It was my first guess too after I read the shop manual last night. I'm gonna get it scanned tomorrow or the next day, I'll post the results. I like the white two tone ES by the way lexpilot, don't see that color combo all that often.
