For sure the 99-01 will fit. well kind of, it touches the hood slightly. Im sure the plateform of that year completely changed from the 99-01, so i doubt it would.

I had a 2003 Solara Se and noticed this bar in the engine compartment. What exactly does it do for the car?

if you ever have free time and nothing better to do.. take the bar off and take the car for a drive. you will feel the difference in turns. This bar basically stable your suspension. or i could be wrong.......

Whoa! What happened to the '96?!?
The suggestion about driving with, without and then with it again is a great suggestion. I don't know about your application, but I could sure tell a difference with mine.

Ariyanna, now you got me interested in this. I'd be really interested to see the pics and how you installed it. When I did my own research, I see there is also a "TRD" variation. Is there any difference between the one you bought and the TRD variation?

I'd love to tighten up my suspension a little bit. There was much to be said about the cornering ability of my Solara for the short time I owned it.

mines did the same thing haha.. I had to bend it a bit in the middle to make it not touch the top.

It looks the same as the 99-01 but thats just in the picture.
It makes a diffrence if you do aggressive turns.

Also when my strut bar comes in I will post up some pics before and after and tell you if theres a difference.

P.S. I was able to get my hands on JDM clear corner lights for $150 shipped and will post pics when I get them

The strut bar doesn't stiffen any suspension. It's a 'strut' bar. It's designed to limit body warping. It's also used highly when stiffer suspension is used as replacement to OEM suspension. Not the other way around.
Less force upon the body through a corner will limit body warp, and hence give the feeling of stiffer suspension.

Ok guys good news my Solara strut bar came in and it looks good and bolts on to the car, but the strut bar touches the top of the hood when I close it and the hood has a slight buldge and doesnt sit flush with the fenders. Is there anyone that has this strut bar installed and did some kind of modification or just left it like that?

modify the hinges for the rear of the hood (towards windshield) to sit higher. u might actually get better clearance for changing the windshield wiper when the hood is closed. I lifted the hood on my civic back in the day lol but the front will probably not shut well on the es. My other suggestion would be to remove the heat shield underneath the hood, but I doubt that would give u enough clearance either. good luck. im really pissed more suspension parts arent available for the 97-01!!!!! we are a dieing breed...
