Default 98 es atf????

I have a 1998 Lexus ES300 and my dipstick says Dexron II or III, my manual says Dexron II or III (which I believe), but reading some reputable people on this forum claim that after 97 they switched to Toyota T-IV (the 99's are definitely TT-IV)

1. Aside from Amsoil, what ATF are people using?
2. Any good synthetic Dexron III out there?
3. Has anyone tried Dexron VI in an ES?

The ES ATF thing has me totally confused, it seems I always get a car that's in limbo some way or another.

Well if your dip stick says II or III then they switched over in 99. Just go to napa and get some Dexron III oil -- I just bought the napa stuff for $2.XX a quart. As long as it is Dexron III they are all pretty much the same.

From doing the tranny oil change and changing over the engine oil to Mobil one, my car has had a 2.5 mpg increase. Doing 29.3 mpg now!

Nice, I'm running mobil 1 oil, so I just need to change out the ATF. Like you said in your other answer to my question...I think I'll run III and wait until there's more info/reviews out on VI.
