1998 ES300 intermittently not starting
100k mileage...w/i the past 3 months, especially when sitting overnight (No.Fla.), the car will not even turnover when starting attempted. There is a single 'click', lights etc go on but no cranking. This repeats for a number of attempts, then starts w/o hesitation, especially if key is 'wiggled' in starter switch. Battery, cables, connections etc checked OK by certified mechanics times 2.All 3 transponder keys elicit this scenario.
I noticed that when using an 'emergency entrance key' w/o a transponder I had made makes the same 'click' & of course no starting. No other problems.
Could this be a problem in the transponder 'system'? I read there is a transponder amplifier but in this car?
Help!
Thanks,
Peter Go

I had this issue on my 96 es300. I pulled the starter and solenoid. The contacts had wore down and were not making the connection to the starter motor. There was a fiber washer (maybe a buffer washer) that cushioned the contacts. I was able to break it and remove it, this allowed the contacts to make a solid connection, I haven't had a problem with it since. But I only bought myself a little time before the contacts wear down a little more, then I will have to replace the solenoid contacts.
