Default 1993 puffing white smoke from muffler.

hi guys my lexus es 300 1993 puffing white smoke from muffler.I was told that was oil burning. The thing is the car runs fine a moment the next the check engine light comes on.After that the car starts shaking a little on idle it will even turn off if not kept accelerated. Also my pressure plate is loose it goes between the tranny and engine, does anyone know how to tighten it.

Thanks guys

Sounds like the head gasket is blown..Happend to my 93 Es300 and it did the same thing. White smoke, idling bad. Dont drive it or you could crack the block if you haven't already. Check your water level, and the oil to see if it looks milky, like water got in it. If it isnt that, it could be your valve stem seals are leaking, the smoke will be grey though and it wouldnt affect the way the car runs, so it really sounds like a blown head gasket, sorry. Im a chic and I just changed my own head gaskets on the same car. If your mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself. Just get the Haynes book for 93 camry and use it as a guide.

this is exactly what my problem was, i actually had a post with some pics up, one of my hoses came loose, and i had to keep it accelerated or it would just die, i had several mechanics look at it and i finally figured out that a-hole who replaced my belt never put 3...YEAH 3 of my hoses back on properly, and 1 was just dangling in the open. so that could be a possibility as well.

Wow, that is why I don't trust anyone to work on my cars, if its going to get screwed up, I will do it.... As for the white smoke, I too have a 93 ES with white smoke, missing and raw gas dripping from it...... tomorrow is pull the plugs, check compression.... new plugs, new wires... soooooooooooo we will see what the issue is.... no bubbles in the coolant, oil looks nice...will keep you informed as to the progress.....
