Question Water Pump Replacement 95 es300 HELP!

Hey all, I just was informed that I needed a new water pump for my 1995 es300. The mecanic said ti would cost around 300 bucks! My grandfather seems to think i could do this on my own! His solution is just to go buy a few books at the library and do it myself, He says, with a little common sence, you can save hundreds!

How hard is it to replace the waterpump??? Can anyone maybe direct me to a place where i can get dummy proof step by step instructions on how to do so? and the tools required?

I am new to fixing cars, only thing I ever replaced was an alternator on a 1978 k-10 Pickup, so u can guess how easythat was! Can anyone give me a few pointers and a little help? Thanks everyone!!!

I agree, it's probably not a good job for a beginner to start with. I woul recomend getting it done at a good independent repair shop. Have them replace the timming belt while they are in there. They should only charge for the belt since they have to remove the timming belt in order to replace the pump.

doing a waterpump and timing belt on a 1mz-fe engine is not easy and not a beginners job, but if you feel youre up to the challenge then go for it...
just make sure you get a factory service manual or a haynes manual and follow it to a tee...its crucial you have the correct timing, so accuracy is key

the water pump is a top level job where you also replace the timing belt and then when doing that you also do the accessory belts and while doing that you might replace other items. i would class it a level 9 on scale of 10 simply because most people are impatient/get bogged down/nervous when doing car work. it's really a 6/10 difficulty and tools... but add in the human factor and i say it's a 9/10.

get another opinion on the water pump, two more actually, and see if someone says something else is wrong. it might be a whole to do about nothing!
