Unhappy 2000 ES trac off msg and check eng lite

Hello All,
I am a newbie to this forum and need help w/ a new to me 2000 ES 300 w/ 28,000 miles. I had a mechanic check it out prior to purchase and he said it looked like a new car- the only problem was the tires were starting to dryrot, an easy fix.

The tail lites quit working three days after purchase, so I changed the fuse which fixed that problem. However, after starting the car, I have a check engine icon and trac off. I figure I must have bumped a fuse but the owners manual doesn't show traction control as on any of the circuits. Pressing the trac off button has no effect. Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

Will

the TRAC light usually comes on in conjunction with the check engine light to indicate a malfunction
take it to a dealer or get an OBDII scan to see what the code from the computer is, and then we can begin to help you with your issue. I cant help you unless i have the code for the check engine light

Hi Will,

My '01 ES300 did the same thing a couple years ago... it ended up being the oxygen sensor.

Probably something minor...maybe a sensor or something..

No good to guess at it, best thing to do is have it scanned.

maybe an o2 sensor or random misfire due to age/low milage....cars that sit alot tend to have failures from lack of use honestly

Check codes at autozone for free.
sounds like my old problem...thread (taking advise) I know it's not spelled correctly but i couldn't correct it.
I just replaced the one sensor but some say do both. I still have not had any problems since. They are pricey. I tried to add attachment but getting an error. Anyone else having problems with it
