Hi there, I'm new to this forum and I had originally posted this under the high miles thread.
I have a 1999 ES300 coach edition. I bought it last summer from a guy who bought it brand new and had every service record from the dealership. The guy even took it there for oil changes. It now has 115k for miles and is running strong. Got the rear struts replace a couple months ago and will probably need new front struts and tires before winter. Otherwise, its been very solid.
Does any here have a 1999 ES300? How reliable have your cars been? Any tips you want to pass on?

I thought you might be interested in the 99 ES specs if you haven't seen them: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1999/1999ESspecs.pdf
We don't have a 99 ES but we do have a 98 Camry V6 that we have owned since new and which has a similar drivetrain -- utterly reliable, nothing ever breaks, and far less expensive to maintain than our 00 LS. The 99 ES shares a higher number of parts with the Camry than the next generation ES does. You should be able to buy lots of parts for your ES at a Toyota dealer for less -- suspension, brake pads, filters.
You can see which parts are the same at http://www.t o y o d i y.com/

Hey guys, thanks for your input. Those are good tips and I will be sure to use them. The car has been a pleasure to own and I have an excellent local mechanic who knows Toyota/Lexus so my maintenance is reasonable. I plan to drive this car till 200k, which is about 10 years as I only put on about 10k per year. Thanks.

these cars are built like beasts. I have a 97 with about 215k on it and it still drives like new. The only thing I have done is the 100k tune up and replacement of the rear valve cover seal. Other than that, this thing still drives like new. You should be able to do 200k easy.

plates, no brakes, tires, oil changes, oxygen sensors, tranny fluid changes, steering fluid changes, brake fluid changes, headlight bulb changes, battery changes, and more?

kinda left those out cuz those are almost routine on any car. the 100k tune up and the rear valve cover seal are the only major things needed. Never had to change any O2 sensors so far. brakes are done when needed as I dont have a specific interval. As far as fluid changes go, I did that with the 100k maintenance. Everything is still good to go at 215k

Change your upstream o2 sensors!! they should be done as routine maintenance at about 80K miles..... rofl you're just 'lucky' the ecu hasn't been annoyed by their response... either that, or you have one hellof a good operating environment for them / they were made reallllllllllly well........... but still......... 215K miles and 12 years ...... my god

I have a 1999 es300 coach edition and it keeps throwing a catalytic coverter code which I keep resetting - anything I should be concerned about there? I've had it in and out of the dealer for maintenance and with 150k on it, I don't want to keep paying them if they're just resetting codes since I can do that myself.
Also - I'm looking for a center cap, which is apparently very difficult to find for the coach edition. I'm willing to pay a premium for a used part.

I have an '01 coach - what's a center cap? On the wheel? I'd pull the catalyc converter and see if it's blown through - if you can see a hole through it, change it - can get a new one on eBay for around $60.

I have yet to find a dealer that offers the part since it was discontinued, no dealer in the database has one, so if someone can find one I'll buy it. Part # pt341-33990-wc
