I'm new to Lexus and would likes some opinions on my two options for purchase. Both vehicles are close in price and mileage, so I'd like opinions on which would be more reliable. Both cars seem to be very clean and I'll be calling Lexus with the VIN #'s tomorrow. All things being equal do you guys have an opinion on reliability? No major repairs or major components have been replaced on either vehicle, i.e. tranny, water pump, etc. Thanks!

Id opt for the ES300, Only cause I have one
...
But both are for different needs.
The RX is more for space, possibly kids, or for someone who likes SUV's
Both are great cars, the RX body would be a bit more outdated than that of the ES300's.

Mechanically speaking, they are basically the same car, reliability wise, the RX would be a hair more expensive due to the AWD, more hardware just cost more to maintain. Not to mention the RX get worse gas mileage.
In the long run, the ES is cheaper.
I think it just depends on if you want to sit high or low, and obviously the RX got more cargo space.
I don't think you can go wrong with either one, assuming they are both in decent condition. They are some of the most reliable cars Lexus ever made.

thanks for the comments guys. Yeah I like the RX, but it seems like there are quite a few transmission failures in the first generation model. I think I've made my mind up with the ES300 as it will most likely be more reliable in the end. The last thing I need is a transmission to blow out at the tune of about $5k!
