Default Just back from service -Which of these items can I do myself

Well my car has gone in for it's first service since I have owned it. To date, nothing has gone wrong with the car and it has been plodding along without a sign of trouble. No visible oil leaks on the garage floor, no overheating, just working away being smooth and quiet. After the service, this is what the techs have recommended be done due to some faults they have found:

* Timing Belt and Oil Seal require replacement (timing belt because the oil seal is leaking hence timing belt would get wet) - About $AUS500 (Australian Dollars).

* Engine Sump is leaking so need to replace the gasket - About $AUS200.

* Auto Trans pan leaking oil

* Rocker Cover gaskets leaking oil

* Power Steering Service required.

* Trans flush required - a bit cautious on this given I have heard stories on here about the trans flush being done and then the trans ceases requiring a replacement.

* Both CV shafts require replacement (recommended as the CV joints are dry, but they make no noise and the boots have gone).

Can any of this be done at home for nowhere near the above costs (total excluding the trans and power steering service is just over $AUS2000.

sump aka the oil pan

rocker cover aka the timing cover

all that can be done in your driveway or a garage in one day

the trans flush is not something you can do. but you can do a fluid change and that is safe to do for transmission longevity. transflush if you took it somewhere to do is not smart unless you did it every 30 k miles since new. after a long time not doing it ... it is a bad idea.

My car is on higher mileage - 208000km's. It's a Gen 3 (97-01) so has the 1MZ-FE. Any instructions, DIY's for this stuff? Have started searching the forum but not found anything yet. Might even look at the Toyota forums to see if anyone has done some of these steps on a 1MZ-FE equipped Camry LOL!

Bit of browsing on the web and came across these 2 links:

http://pdftown.com/Toyota-Lexus-ES-Service-Manual.html which links to
http://rapidshare.com/users/BQTCHWhttp://rapidshare.com/users/BQTCHW.

It's a 40Mb download, so will see what this is like when done. The file name suggests that it is a FSM - Full Service Manual. I will update this thread after I have downloaded it and checked it all out.

Thanx, Draco! I have searched and searched, all dead ends. Was looking for 2001 - didn't think about looking for 1997 (same gen!)!

Has anyone downloaded the FSM already from rapidshare? I was downloading it and the file got corrupted or something and now rapidshare wont let me download again. If any one has it for the 97-up i would really appreciate it. Thanks!

You will notice at the URL http://pdftown.com/Toyota-Lexus-ES-Service-Manual.html , before you click on download there is a bit of small text down the bottom that tells you the password

I think it is pdftown.com from memory.

Jewel it's a 40Mb file, so hard to host all at once. The file is made up of numerous PDF's broken into different sections, so I guess each PDF could be sent individually. Try clearing your IE cache on your PC and give it another shot.
