Default grounding the alternator?

when upgrading the ground wires in the engine bay, is it necessary to ground the alternator? if so, where on the alternator should the ground wire be applied to?

Thanks!

no, why would the alternator be grounded but to the engine? you can do anything though, but the engine is grounded to the battery through cables and the chassis. the chassis is grounded to the battery, so everything should be real good
