charcoal/ vapor canister in ES300 yr 2000
Hi,
The check engine and trac control lights are on and the dealer said that the charcoal canister needs to be replaced. Are charcoal canister and vapor canister two different names for the same part? Where is it located in my car?
thanks!

Charcoal canister is one thing. It is located under the rear of your car above the muffler. Its a black box with a bunch of vacuum hoses attached. Expect to pay $300+ for this part unless you have some friends at Toyota or Lexus. Going through toyota will save you approx. $30. This is something you can do yourself, no need to pay anyone to do it. Once it is changed unhook battery for thirty min, reconnect, and you're good to go. Good Luck!

pdarciel,
Find some time, some coconuts, and patience, and you can fix that thing cheap and environmentally friendly. Seriously, coconuts; in them, you get activated charcoal.
Nice, 1 post? That's amazing. I have totally not come to expect very searchable answers to get their own wasteful thread--by newbies born yesterday. Welcome to CL[not to be confused with craigslist- where people get raped, robed, and sell their items quickly and away from the IRS' prying eyes]!
The canister's are two names for the same part. You have have the TRAC and CEL ,two lights on, probably from a suspension failure of the AVS or something similar [are you sure it's not AVS light?], and not ... a problem with evaporative emmisions... but that's just me.. maybe I'm wrong. If you have a CEL, and you got the code, and it indicated the canister, you might have a bad canister or you might have another problem like the lines going to it or otherwise. I would check the FSM and go through the diagnostic procedure to be sure you don't throw money at the problem , instead of properly diagnosing. CEL trouble codes are not a replacement for diagnosis by a human/humanoid.
