They should make DVD functionality built-in. That'd be nice.

I wouldn't dare try to hook up an external DVD player to a brand new ES' navigation LCD and Mark Levinson stereo. It's not just an easy s-video and RCA audio hookup.

Any news.? It appears that one can not watch a DVD on the Nav screen without mods?? A friend of mine just purchased a new 2003 es, and can not get one to work? Am I missing something??

Actually, it's against the law to have any type of viewing device that the driver can see while operating the vehicle.......that's why you have to "agree" before the NAV system becomes operational.(legality) I agree that it would be nice to use this screen to view a DVD movie while parked, and to also show the rear of the car when backing up.

Why dont you guys try putting a dvd in place of the navi dvd and see what happens? Be adventurous!

I went to my local radio shop and they told me it could be done. I am just waiting to do it next year when I put a system in mine.

...i thought the nav on the es is the same as in the camery. and if so...i remember seeing a commercial on tv a long time ago with a soccer mom watching a dvd on the camry nav. there was something about the parking brake being engaged to watch dvds.
did anyone else see that commercial??

No, I'm sorry I never saw that commercial. Are you sure it was a Camry and not an SUV?

Sure it can! Go here.

As for the stock DVD NAvi unit (DVD player), I doubt you'll get the drive to acutally play the DVD movie. It may be stuck on Navigation DVD DIsc /Propriatary mode by the factory and only play those discs. The link shows a safer and much better way. Otherwise, there's www.nav-tv.com and they even do the custom work for you.
Good luck and look out for my own write up/upgrade on the same topic in the next week or two

Do they have a unit to fit: '02, '03, '04 ES300? If they do, do you know how much it'll cost to convert my NAV system?

Up to '03 ES should be no problem as the RGB lines are easy to get to (they run from the ECU to the head unit).

'04 ES will be much more difficult (if not impossible) as everything is contained within the head unit, and you will not be able to get to the RGB signals.

This seems to be the best solution currently on the market IMO (all-in-one, no wire cutting):

Not sure if they've got the ES330 figured out or not though.
