Got nothing to lose, just $7, and I saw some rather convincing photos on this very forum.
I Seafoamed the car today (crankcase and gas). It did nothing for the ticking, but I didn't have sludge to begin with. I didn't think it would help, but it was worth a try. I was disappointed that I didn't get the smoke show you always hear about with Seafoam.

That probably wouldn't tell you if you had a restriction in some passage, would it? Only if something were majorly wrong?

Ticking you can hear from in the car with the hood closed is probably not normal. Just to add to your tortuous little annoyance.

I would really recommend looking at it yourself. Listen closely with a length of pipe or stethoscope to pinpoint it. An oil pressure gauge is only $15 online. I might go and get one just because it would be neet.

To get the smoke show you are supposed to put it through a vac line. I'd say it's better to put it in the oil and gas. Be sure to change your oil soon.

Yeah, you are speaking chinese to me. I'm not a mechanic. I'll have to read about checking oil pressure.

you really ought to take it to a mechanic, otherwise get a $%#$% repair manual so you can learn stuff. this way, you can learn the proper way and if something doesn't make sense to you, you can come on here. plus you can keep it in your car and if something happens you will feel better to know what might be happening.

oil pressure is important or engine parts touch when they aren't supposed to. the higher the engine revs, the more force pushing the metal together [on most of the parts]. if the oil isnt supplied suffieciently, the parts can touch. your engine is making noise as the engine revs up . see where I'm going with this ?

btw, your name makes me hungry

Google it. It looks like using an oil pressure gauge is probably going to be easier than changing the oil. I guess it replaces the oil pressure sensor that goes to the warning light in the dash.

coolpass is right, a repair manual is one thing that is worth much more than what it costs. They are written in plain english with helpful photos and figures. Even if you don't end up doing anything, it's nice to know how things are done. Then you can appreciate (or not), the cost of a mechanic. I would think a mech worth his salt would be able to diagnose your ticking, you should go to some other places.
