You will need a scanner to read the code because your car is OBDII.

You don't need to BUY a scanner.
Some auto stores will scan your code for free.

Autozone checks it for free. That's where I go.

that's what I was hoping for
got the code read but they didn't have the part in stock, so I went somewhere else and got it (cheaper too).
since I didn't get the part from the original shop, I can't ask them to clear the code for me.. haha.
If I disconnect the battery, will that clear the light? is there a security code for the music that I'll have to worry about? The display is blacked out basically and pretty unreadable . Do I only disconnect the negative or both?
I have to get it smogged really soon.. so I need to take care of this, been lazy

Be aware. Clearing the codes, or disconnecting battery wil cause you to fail smog check. You would need to find out what the code is and fix it correctly. Do it once, and do it right.

I did get the code checked and fixed it
there was only one code.. for an o2 sensor. I just can't go back to the same people to clear it...

I know I need to drive the car at least 30 miles once the light goes away before I can smog.. but first I need to clear the light.
So disconnecting the battery will work? I don't want to mess up the radio since I can't see what it says..
