Are there rubber/plastic things in the TB or AFM that might get messed up by carb cleaner? I cleaned an actual carb with carb cleaner once and the stuff just destroys diaphrams and gaskets.
Ooh, I had a nissan that used MAFs; I wouldn't recommend touching that MAF sensor wire with anything. Maybe these toyotas are different. I guess you can trust a certifiable mechanic like coolpass.

you dont use carb cleaner on the MAF [ hot wire part ] you use what I said - I think it will be called mass air flow meter cleaner or something like that and you dont touch those wires physically
