I have a 1992 ES300 with the 3.OL 6 cylinder which currently has 130,000 loving miles on it. The timing belt has never been changed and I am about to do this myself. I am a backyard mechanic with some skill and knowledge on american cars , but I am a little lost on my Lexus. Can anybody give me a little direction as to where I can find some online info to do this? I understand from friends that a shop would charge big bucks and I don't want to give it them if I can do it myself. Thanks all.

Not much different than a domestic timming belt, the harmonic balencer bolt is tighter though. If you have a good heavy duty impact wrech you should be ok. Don't forget the cam, crank seals, and a water pump. This pdf shows the alignment marks.

follow the fsm word for word, step by step. learn to do searched. learn to follow the site rules. welcome to the club lexus family.
i also rec you do other stuff like the water pump while in there. also, replace the hydraulic tensioner, and all pulleys and tensioner pulley at the same time.
you should buy this special tool for 15 dollars or so that holds the cam sproket from turning while you loosen/tighten the cam sproket bolt.
its on ebay. i bought on on ebay , myself. it works.
do not worry about the little white lines painted on the timing belt, totally useless.
if the belt you buy is directional [indicated on the betlt] make sure you did that correct [ from front engine view, the engine turns clockwise].
if not, then in the future if you take it off that you putt it back on the same way [same direction].

I have a friend who works for Toyota and he's gonna change my timing belt for me for $150. If I had the tools and the service manual I'd do it myself...
