Lightbulb Rear light dash icon showing - all bulbs functioning, what's wrong?

So I got the rear of the car light indicator that a bulb went out. Turned out to be back right brake light. Bought a replacement and I am still getting the icon. I triple checked all the bulbs in the back, brake lights, reverse, etc, still there.

Also weird thing is, when I turned on my fog lights at night, the icon went away for a second, came back on, went away, etc, several times until it stayed on permanently.

What's up with this? Some sensor broken or something?

edit: Oh yea car is a 2001 ES 300.

Are you sure both the brake AND parking lights are working? I;m not sure on your setup, but if you have a dual filiment parking/brake bulb, and 1 filiment is out, the light should go on.

I had the same problem about 2 months ago. My problem ended up being the socket that the bulb goes into. The soldering in the socket where the wiring touches the metal had cracked. That may be why you see the indicator light go on and off. Sometimes it makes contact sometimes it doesn't I ended up going to the dealership and having them fix it. $100.00 for part $60.00 for labor.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem where all the bulbs would be working and the light is on. My problem was I was using bulbs of different brands. Once I switch all my bulbs with bulbs of the same brand my problem went away. Hope this helps.

I have that at random times. A thread while back when my lights were 'flickering' suggested it was my alternator... A new battery fixed it. It went on a few times after and now once in a long while...

In short, if you check to see them and they work, than whatever. I simply ignore it.

Or if you hate seeing the light this is a great solution, all you have to do is cut to fit!

^^Haha, thats the easy way to fix a bulb out warning light in our cars for sure! If my darn board was designed correctly, that would be my next "mod" lol

Though after you just need to be wary of the tails going out completely. Thats the only issues I had when contemplating a resistor block to level out the wattage...

Yea I am just going to ignore it, it's silly. Only thing that sucks now is that I won't actually know when one in the back goes out until probably a cop is writing me a ticket.
