Either Purple Power (I think is name) or Simple Green degreser. Available at most auto stores. I'd recommend getting a gallon jug and a spray bottle for it. Just drench everything, inckluding the body panels int he engine bay. Let it sit for 5 mins (in the shade is possible). Use paper towels 1st to rub everything down. Spray it all off. Then repeat, and use a tooth brush for the tough oil/grease. Just cover up your alternator with say, a plastic bag.
I've done this on several cars, including mine about 7 times. Never had an issue.
And everyone is always amazed how clean it is.

Cover all electrical components that you can reach. Better safe than sorry. Also, Simple Green may work well for some engines, but you have to remember the opposite is exactly the same. I've used it once on my 2ES before getting a specialized cleaner thats guaranteed not to mess with anything and it was alright. I did the same to a 96 Avalon (same engine layout sorta) and it did quite some damage to the car for some reason.
Just be wary of soaking things in water that weren't really supposed to be in it in the first place. Prevention is easier to deal with than consequences afterall
