I have a 96 Es 300!
I want to put 20 inch rims on them!

Does anyone have an expert opinion on why or why not to get 20's on the 96 Es 300??

Would I need a lift?
Does it ride smooth with 20's?
etc..

1: It's Ugly.
2: Enjoy sand. You'll feel every grain of sand on the road. Just imagine potholes. You'll likely be running 30 series sidewall tires. Look at a rubber band, that will be your tire sidewall.
3: Save up money for rim repair when you bend them.
4: The handling, acceleration, AND braking of the car will be much worse do to the massive weight of the rim/tire.

Stick to 18's, or 19's max. 17 or 18 is the best mix of Performance/Looks. 20's is PURELY for Bling Bling look at me on a '96 ES300

Quick question though - are you into the DUB style by chance?




Careful, because you might not be able to stop at 20s like the blokes above.
Answers to this sort of question can quickly turn into a "Let's Bash the DUB Style." Folks might keep in mind that there are other styles that can actually harm the car itself, components thereof (e.g. stretched tires), the performance and/or the fuel economy.

I think ASG's answer is dead-on without twisting off too much on style conversations; more about the end results.

20's will look terrible on a 96 ES. But that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't do it.

Save your $$$..... go with 18" and spend it on suspension or other mods man... it ain't worth the extra 2". Don't forget the speedo will be out of whack too.

What ever you decide.... slap them on and post them up ... we love to see and comment on ur rides.... even more if it going to be 20" (4x4 outback style)

It's been a trend lately in here.
My recent theory is - the used Lexuses get cheaper, and a lot of folks who're younger and more into the latest/popular auto fashions are buying them and then seeing what it takes to coerce the cars into a style they weren't really intended for.

Go to CarDomain and check out the top ESs (and some other makes/models) - the DUB style cars are frequently the top-rated cars.

But as Lexus and ES bros, we're required to be there for 'em anyway.
