Default White smoke/reserve coolant

hey guys i just bought a es300 and theres a problem with what i believe to be the coolant. When i drive the car for 15 or so minutes the car produces smoke under the hood. I believe its coming from the plastic reserve coolant tank. The cap doesnt close all the way and i guess it ends up evaporating all the coolant in the car. Now is that problem common for our cars? And other than replacing the cap with one that closes any other problems i might be facing? Any help would be appreciated.

I jus had a small smoke problem but it was the valve gasket seals leaking oil onto the exhaust... have you checked your seals to make sure they arent leaking oil?

I wouldn't think that the plastic cap would make your car smoke. It should have a pressure release valve on it anyways that will allow the steam to escape and not put too much pressure on the engine in case of overheating (as I just discovered when mine overheated). Is your car overheating? If not, you should definitely have your seals checked. It it is on the front side of the engine, replacing should be fairly simple. If it is on the back side, it will be more difficult.
