How much does it cost for maintence?
Hey guys. My 02 ES300 is my first new car and I was wondering how much it would cost approximately for my 15,000 maintenance through the dealer.
Yeah, 15k in 6 months is alot... but I had to drive everywhere and back the first couple of months I had the car.

Call your local dealers. Prices vary with each dealer.
Since they all charge exorbitant prices, the one closest to you will more than likely match another dealer's price.
15K is nothing more than an oil change, tire rotation (which you can get done for free at various tire places...just make sure they hand-torque the bolts to 76 ft-lb), an A/C filter change (you can do this yourself, if the A/C filter even needs changing), and a bunch of BS checks and inspections (we'll glance at it for you...maybe).
At my dealer it's $215. What the 15K service is worth: $40 or so.

Yeah, your manual should tell you what is included in each scheduled service, you can probably do most of them on your own. i'd rather buy some gud oil and change it myself, then let em put whatever oil they have and charge me $40 for it.

Here's what I'd do:
Oil change - take it to a Toyota dealer as long as they don't charge more than $25. Tell them you want the 90915-20003 or 90915-20004 filter. These are the Japanese-made ones that are better than the domestic-made OEM Toyota/Lexus filters.
Or, change your own oil. Or, buy your own oil and filter, and pay a service center $5-10 to do the oil change for you while you watch.
A/C filter change - this is the easiest out of all the replacement maintenance items. You access the filter through the glove box; instructions in the manual. Replacing this yourself is good because depending on the conditions you drive in, your A/C filter may need replacement earlier or later than the generic maintenance schedule.
Tire rotation - various tire places will do a tire rotation for you free. Some other places charge $10-15, better than Lexus' $40-50.
Last time I had a place check if my brakes needed replacing, I just rolled the tires front to back so when he put them back on, voila, tire rotation.
The important thing is to make sure they don't overtorque the wheel bolts. Lexus spec is 76 ft-lb. Make sure they hand-torque it with a torque wrench or at least use a torque-limiter stick with their impact socket guns. I've even seen Lexus service centers overtorque the wheel bolts.
Checks and inspections - There's really no reason to pay for checks and inspections. These places want to make money off of you. If they find a problem, that means they can charge you (or Lexus if the car's still under warranty) like crazy for them to fix it. You'd get a better inspection of a certain item by merely asking the mechanic about it during an oil change.
With the 15K service, you'll never really know if they did inspect everything they said they would or not. Granted, most of the inspections are very simple and require just a few glances as long as the car is up on a lift. Which kind of makes you wonder why you're paying so much for them. Add that to the fact that there's no warranty on inspections that inspected parts won't fail for the next 6 months. The only verifiable items are ones that require replacement.

Thanks guys. I could do most of that stuff myself I guess but I also need my brakes checked because the steering wheel shakes sometimes when I brake. So I figured I'd just get everything done at once, you know?
