Shift Solenoid E Malfunction problem won't go away
Hi,
The CEL on my 1999 ES 300 (90k miles) comes on every 500k or so and the code is always P0770(Shift Solenoid E Malfunction). So the dealer replaced the solenoid for me, and after 500k the CEL came on again. So the dealer is thinking there may be a problem with the torque converter. What do you guys think? Is that a possibility? The car drives fine though.

So they eliminated the soleniod. So that leaves the valve body, torque converter, or the wiring. You state that it happens every 500k?? Is that kilometers? How many times has this happened. If it has been several, I would check the wire harness and connectors closely. I would find it hard to believe that the torque converter would be that intermitent.

oh sorry. yes 500k is 500 kilometer,about 300 miles. It has happened 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Everytime they clear the code and car is fine for a few days. Then the light comes on again. I don't feel any symptom, just the CEL and trackoff light. Car drives fine though. :S
