97 car shaking while braking

when slowing down, my whole car shakes. it just started, and scares the crap out of me. can't figure it out, anyone have any ideas?

the last two posters are right but they neglected to mention 2 other likely things that can cause that:
1wheels were recently installed and incorrectly torqued [which damaged the rotor]
2rotors are out of spec [ie too thin]

when you get off the Highway this is when warping happens the most, if you get off the highway or from going any high speed, if you hold the brakes with out letting off a little bit you will warp the rotors fast.. if you can just let off a little every few seconds to let them cool down.

Yup, warped rotors. You can pick some up from a couple of the vendors/autoparts warehouse/etc.. Pick up some new pads and you're all set to go. Check the DIY Sticky in the ES forum, it shows step by step(with pics) how to change it all yourself.
