powerwave's ES250 update
been a while since i posted here. how are ya, folks?
we're getting ready to move to another state, and the old ES250 has been acting a little strange lately. before we take this car across 4 states worth of highway, DH was gonna track down the problem. it was an easy find tonight: the 19 year old fuel filter was gunked up. you shoulda seen the nasty stuff that came out of it. so much for toyota's claim of lifetime filters.
she's got 190k miles now. (for about a year, his daily driver was a mercedes diesel powered by wvo- we're donating it to the local tech college automotive/alt fuels class.) we will probably be looking for another daily driver in 6 months or so, and we'll take it easy on this one.

wow... new fuel filter and cleaning out the fuel injectors tonight did wonders for the car. far more than we expected- took her for a drive and the engine sounded better than it has in ages. this is very good.
replacement sunroof motor going in tonight too, while he's into the car.
probably will run a top engine cleaner soon too. depending how this goes, we might actually keep using this one as a daily driver for a while yet.

thanks, lexucan! i hate moving, but it's a good move.
man, i can't tell you what a relief it was to hear that engine noise just go away. we aren't the least bit worried about it driving through the mountains now.

we're moving to indiana. i know, doesn't sound too exciting, but i got a good job and you can't beat the cost of living. we'll just have to make our own fun working on the cars.

both of the cars are downright filthy lately! the last few months of grad school were pure hell and i had no free time, now it's too hot outside to wash the cars. i will get some new pictures uploaded once we're moved in to the new place.

the radiator in the ES popped right before the move, so we had to leave it in NC on moving day and fly hubs back to fix it. annoying, but not the end of the world. the prius handled the moving trip pretty well on its own.
so he replaced the radiator, started in on the drive up to IN, and hit a fallen rock in the mountains. blew a tire, bent a rim. UGH. so the ES got a new radiator and 4 new michelins. (the other tires were done anyway.) the rim is ok to limp around on temporarily, a junkyard about 100 miles away has an ES250 rim for $39.
engine sounded beautiful the whole trip. the car was fairly loaded down but the drive went well. she needs a wash though.
now we're both here, getting settled in the new place.

another year, another move! we're in maryland now for better jobs and better $, which is working out nicely so far. the ES250 is still kicking just fine. we've been back and forth about replacing it.
the steering wheel lock cylinder decided to crap out on us last spring, right before my husband took the prius on a multi-state road trip- but that's pretty much all the trouble it's given us. as always, the ES remains a class act.
if i can ever get the two cars parked next to each other (we're in a crowded apartment complex for our first year here) i'll put up some pictures. both cars are still looking great. haven't had time to work on them much beyond regular maintenance.

Thanks for the update and good to hear the both of you still have the ES 250. The ES 250 is one of the first and original Lexus that first came to the U.S. You've got Lexus history with your ES 250...
