I have noticed the same thing in my 01' and I LOVE it! I think it's great because I don't have to apply the brakes as much and hard when coasting down a hill. I thought it was odd, but now after reading about it here, I'm glad it's not just me.

set of brake pads is 50$. new transmission is 1.5K. as you can see its cheaper to use brakes than transmission to slow down. BUT since this happens only in certain conditions i wouldn't worry too much.
