Default buying an es

ok so i dont own it yet but im looking at buying a 93 es300 with 50k original miles on it. iv never had a lexus and am wondering if there are any special things i need to look at?

i know it needs a complete tranny flush as the trans fluid is black and also i think its time for the timing belt, water pump and tensioner...

anything i should be weary about?...

btw i did have a mech look at it and they told me all is ok but looks like the cam seals need to be done. is this something i should be worried about? or is that normal to be done around 50k miles?

Wow. 50K miles on a '93--That's less than 3200 miles a year!!! How much do they want for it? It must be in pristine condition for that low of miles.

its an older ladys car. the interior looks like showroom condition. back seat doesnt even look like anyones sat in it EVER....cars in really good condition...almost too good to be true. thats why this leaky cam seal is buggin me a little.

what am i looking at maintenance wise? i know timing belt, water pump, damn seal...wat else will need to be done? and am i able to do this myself? iv worked on lots a cars before but never a lexus. iv had a bunch of civics and acuras and a couple of jeeps but never even looked under the hood of a toyota or lexus...are they easy to work on?

It's just like 93 camry. Simple to work on. I'd jump on it if price is right.

You can pay kbb price if that makes you feel better lol.. j/k
We got our 05 ES330 with 48K miles from a small dealer for $16K that's $5500 under kbb value. If everything checks out I'd jump on it.

That's a better deal than I got on mine. I purchased my 93 from my mother-in-law about a 1 1/2 years ago with 63,000 original miles on it for 3K. She only drove it about 5 miles every couple of days. It now has 111,000 on the odo and besides standard maintenance items, it has been great. The only thing to watch for in this year ES is the speedo/tach needles seem to go out. If they go out, or start flickering, there is someone her on CL that will replace them for a very reasonable price. I did have mine done and even my local dealer was impressed.

I would definately jump on it!

ok so i bought it. runs really smooth and best part is i took a look at the leak again and its very minimal. so if i cant get it done until spring, everything will be ok...cant wait to start modding it. pix will take me a couple of days as i just brought it home and im leaving for a camping trip later tonight.

on a side note, does this forum keep a running thread on mods that can be done?
