Grease the bottom of the steering shaft. At the bottm under the dash there is a rubber boot thatprotects the shaft. when that gets dry it will squeak. Common on Camrys, too. Use a silicone grease.

Lexus wanted $1300???!!! You were right on the money 96Schwarz...It took me MAYBE 45 seconds to fix the squeak. I didn't even have any grease - I just smeared around the existing grease. I stuck my head under the dash, found where the steering column (about 1/2" diameter) goes into the rubber boot and on to the firewall, and moved the boot up and down a little along with the existing grease. Less than a minute and problem solved.
Thanks Again,
Martin

hey guys i have this same problem. i just tried to grease up the shaft. it did look pretty dry. but it still squeaks, how would i grease up the other side of the boot? can i remove the 12mm bolt that's holding the ring to remove the boot? also, how hard is it to access the shaft from inside the hood? i'd like to lube it from inside the hood also. this thing has been bothering me for 2 years!!

i didn't remove the rubber ring. at the point where the shaft enters the rubber boot, just lube up that area. the boot with give a little play when you push it. repeat on the other side of the firewall.

Picture Please?
I'd love if someone could post a pic of the affected area, seeing as though I can't picture where everyone is talking about for the life of me. Thanks in advance!
