Default 96 ES with 162k- Engine Mount question

Bought a 96 ES 300 few months back with 160k on it...lately when the car is cold (sitting for 4 hrs or more), when I start it and (RPM is High due to sensor) put it in R or D there is big Clicking noise, and after I drive it for few miles and stop and changing gears there is no noise.

Any thoughts? my mechanic thinks its rear motor mount...

Pop the hood and have someone looking at your engine while you shift to R or D.

he did and that is how he came up with his diagnosis...but I though engine mount was for vibration and not noise...

Vibration can cause audible noises.

Well it should sound like a clunk/thud and you should feel as well.

well yeah.. it'll go away after the engine warms up because the RPM is not high. i would just recommend that when you drive the car... go at various speed and let go of the gas pedal for a bit and accelrate a bit... if you get a bump... your odds are that your mounts are bad.

oh and yeah.. usually its the dogbone mount that goes bad.. it rare that the rear motor mount would go bad.

I changed the dogbone about a month ago.

got rear engine mount bushing and tried to change it, but its too difficult and not a job for a small garage.
