Default Tires for a 97-01

Looking for some all season tires for 16" OEM wheels....

I was on tirerack.com and it told me to get general altimax tires or something like that? Anyone have any experience with these...? Apparently, they are the 2nd best in its class getting a 8.2 out of 10 on its reviewer rating, good traction in rain, snow, all weathers and comfortable ride and noise quality... They're $78/tire I believe. Thinking about them but wanted to hear from some of you guys first...

Whoa! They're like twice as much as the tires I was looking at

Are they really worth double the amount??

If they last longer, handle better (wet, dry, snow), and are quieter then they are worth every penny - they may turn out to be cheaper in the long run. Discount tires has 'em for $112 ea. How many years/miles do you hope to get out of a set? Unless you're buying tires just to be able to sell the car you should seriously consider these.

I had the Goodyear Triple Treads on mine and they were a pretty good tire although they weren't all that great in the snow. They sure had a LONG *** tread life though.

I am replacing them next week with a set of Nokian WRG2 tires. 205/60/16 size.

Ill let you know how they are but from what I'm reading they are pretty bad ***.

Tires are sadly a part people skimp out on but think of it like this. You wouldn't wear some crappy shoes if you rock climbed or did cross country training would you?

Good tires give better life, they are quieter, handle better, handle rain better and can give better MPG.
Now I've heard some good things about some General tires. The other thing is don't get caught up in the "name" of the brand but do the info on the individual line under the tire brand. Seems u did your HW so this General tire might be pretty good.

I always run Falken with no problems. Great wet/dry traction. Of course, unless you are looking to auto-X, I would just keep it simple!

I just switched from the Goodyear Triple Tread to the General AltiMAX HP. The Goodyear didn't do so hot in the snow or rain and were a little loud with road noise. The Goodyear did last a long time, close to 50,000 miles. The General's are very quiet and handle great in the rain (haven't got any snow yet). I'll see how long the rubber lasts. The General's are also just over $100 per tire vs. $140+ for the Goodyear, for a 17" rim that is.

Agreed. That is why i run two sets. One in the winter & summer. Each one being as efficient as possible for the season at hand. Otherwise i think that all seasons are a waste of time. Having been convinced and loyal believer in all seasons, i will never get them again! Winter tires FTMFW!

Btw, i have General Exclaim UHP for summer, and they are amazing! Reason i got them is because everyone loves them, super quiet and tread wear is great. A plus is that they are owned by continental and it was one of their designs they implemented on the General brand. Having gotten them at cost was the best part!
