This is a common problem according to people on the forum. I have the light on all the time too (rear) yet I replaced all my bulbs and they are all working. It's something to do with a faulty part.
Not sure if there is a fix for it or not? Currently I'm driving with it on. My ride is an 01 ES.

I had this same problem and it came on when I pressed the brake and then realized that the brake light filament was burnt out. The corner lights are double filaments and if one is burnt out, it will give you a warning light. The warning lamp icon covers both the brake light and your rear running lights.

If you use an incorrect bulb the bulb out indicator will stay lit. The bulbs have a certain resistance to them and the bulb out indicator measures this. I had a neighbor who asked and got the correct bulb and his bulb out indicator turned off. From what he said the terminals were a little different on the correct bulbs though I did not see the bulbs he used.

Mine are fine, both sets work, etc.
The problem is intermittent in my 2001. I have been reading and it may be as simple as:
Clean the bulb connectors, or
Make sure they are ALL from the SAME BRAND! Yes, it sounds stupid, but apparently it is true!
I don't much care for it. And LED's are useless in these cars, super expensive and poorer light output and a standard bulb...

I'm glad someone finally posted this question! This has been bugging me ever since I bought my '97...Every now and then, it just pops on intermittently.
I guess I'll start with 01LEXPL's advice and clean the connectors!

I feel there is no stupid question on here, some have more experience and some have none when it comes to cars. Were all here to help each other out and share our experiences when it comes to modding our cars and saving money too.

Agreed. Since I've bought my ES300 back in July, I have probably saved hundreds of dollars on simple little repairs and DIY's as opposed to taking it in to a shop. I must say of all the cars I've owned, Toyota/Lexus makes their cars very "user friendly" for DIY repairs. That is quality Japanese engineering for ya!

Since the original tail light bulb (7443) for my 2003 ES300 is no longer made, you have to go with the 7443LL (long life). I replaced the same bulb on both sides (you get 2 in the pack anyway) and avoided the infamous "tail light warning issue". It worked. I think the key is not mismatching types or brands.

I as well have been experiencing the same problem. At night with the headlights on, the indicator intermittenly lights, yet all bulbs are fine. Sometimes it lights when I hit the brakes, other times as I am just driving along, and again only at night. All bulbs work and I did have dealer go through all the bulbs as well. I guess I will try purchasing the 7443LL and replace all bulbs again and see what happens. Is there a specific bulb number recommended for the dual element brake/tail? My vehicle in question is an 2000 ES 300. Thanks, Mike

Many of u experiencing this issue, and I had it too on my 92 ES300, turns out it was the bulbs. I've come across cases on other Camry, Solara, ES300, and RX300 models. There is a Light Failure Relay box mounted inside the backseat on the drivers side, not sure where on the RX300 models location but it can be similar. That my friends can cause these problems that all of u are experiencing if u have already replaced bulbs numerous times. Btw, that box aint cheap either but if u find a used one specifically for your model, try that before buying new thru Lexus-it retails over $300.

Did you ever solve the issue?
Agreed. I changed my tail light bulbs today.
