Default How many quarts of Amsoil ATF do I need?

Quick question everyone

I have 97 ES300 and plan to do 3 drain and fills and was wondering how much Amsoil ATF I should buy.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that it takes 3.7 quarts for a drain and fill, but wasn't sure if this was correct (can't find it in the owners manual for some reason). Rounding out to 4 x 3 = 12 quarts?

Thanks!

More than that.

I used 4.75 bottles* at 1L each [so i tiny bit over one quart], DO NOT REFER TO THE MANUAL! So it should be just under 5 qts. for you.

There was about 1/4 of one bottle left. The manual, it lies!

I bought 4 the the first time around, ended up using all of it, and had to run the car on 'low' trans oil level for a day until i bought another one and topped it up accordingly. Using the same reasoning as yourself.

All it was, was a drain and fill with the filter/gasket change, no flush.

However, keep in mind my car is a 2001 with VVTI, so i have no clue if that makes the slightest difference, i just figured you might want a heads up, if anything.

When you did the drain and fill did you drain the differential too? and is that included in your number?

Thanks!

I found it in the owners manual finally

Transmission: 3.7 qt.

Differential: .9 qt.

Now its a matter of do I want to drain the differential or just due the transmission plug and just buy a case of 12..

Well I'm gonna get 13 quarts so that'll give me a little left over in case there is an error like your saying (.5 quart error ). That'll give me enough to do 3 drain and fills with some left over to possibly do the differential drain once. I'm pretty sure you have a different transmission than I do, so I'm gonna stick with what the owner's manual says and go with that.

I'm sure amsoil will be happy with me ordering a Case of 12, and then 1 on the side lol

Like i said, i gave you my input, and my horrid experience.

I too referred to the manual the first time around, and another thread confirmed [rx300 owners] that Lexus Manual's are garbage and inaccurate.

Actually come to think of it, my Dad's RX330 had the same thing done, the manual called for 3.9L iirc, and i bought 7 bottles of the stuff just in case, pretty much used 5.5 [1L] bottles!

Let us know how it goes.

I am also in the same boat and thinking of doing for my Lexus 2002 )bought in Oct 2001) ES 300.

If you are doing ATF drain the pan-&-refill, how many times do you think one should do drain the pan-&-refill to get a clean looking ATF and at what interval ?

I was told by the master mechanic in an indie shop near my house that I will need 4 Quarts of AMS ATF each time and must do atleast 3 times - every month for 3 month. If the color is NOT satisfactory or clean looking after third attempt then he suggested to do for the 4th time. He said that unless we do at a short interval it is of no use. Is he reasonably correct?

Also, is AMS ATF a better option as far as synthetic ATF is concerned or would you like to suggest some other alternatives?

Try draining and refilling three times with a week in between each drain cycle. What most people do is drain and fill twice, and then drop the pan and replace the filter/gaskets on the third time.
