Default 2003 Spark Plug Change - Link Needed Pls

Forgive the simple question, but a search (yes, I try not to waste anyone's time) only showed spark plug change on a '92 ES300. I've changed plugs on my '99 Avalon (same engine), but access to the rear plugs on this ES300 is not possible it seems w/o removal of the upper intake?

Does any one have a good link or pictures or advice to share?

Gas mileage around town is not great (18-19) and hwy is so so too (28mpg at 70). Bought this great car used at 110k miles. Indicates plug change but I am now leaning toward just doing it myself and 'knowing' it's done, perhaps w/ oxygen sensors as well.

I'd welcome info on what plugs to use in this as well and if they can be obtained outside of Lexus and their premiums.

Many thanks and Merry Christmas!

look up the thread that covers the rear spark plugs on rx 300. the es 300 thread you foudn should be adequate. its 95% the same, 100% same idea. otherwise, remove the IM.

yes to do the rear properly, take off upper intake manifold. it is possible to do it otherwise, but it will next to impossible to know you tighentened the spark plugs properly. there are plenty more reasons why puling the IM off is better. it doesnt take that long and the intake manifold gasket is resuable. i will never do it without taking the IM off.

your other stuff about gas mileage should be researched by you doesnt really fit this thread.

if you car is that old and you are doing this, you know youre supposed to change 02 sensors after 85K miles, so you should do all upstream sensors soon. i think toyota/lexus rec changing the coolant at this time too [and oil + filter]. and lets not forget the timing belt+misc that goes with it.

merry christmas. welcome to club lexus. that rhymes somewhat.

Thank you llcoolpass. I will check the other forum on how to remove my IM. I am surprised it wasn't covered here in ES forum yet. My hands will not allow rear plug changes on this car w/ firewall so close.

My Avalon w/ same engine wasn't hard at all w/ correct sockets and flexjoints.

Good to know changing the O2 sensors is needed. Timing belt was done according to the dealer sign off on the manual (plugs too, but I figured I'd better be sure! I've seen too many rear plugs skipped and not changed but customers charged for it anyway).

Still hoping someone can send me a link to get directly there. W/ my luck I'll strike out in the other car forum as well.
