Is this a good quote?

I did. I went to Dorschel Lexus. Initially, I was just interested in getting their quote on changing the timing belt and the water pump. They said $1250. I pointed out that the cost for just those things from Craig's Autometrics was $625. The Lexus guy said, "Yeah, I wouldn't come here if I were you." After that, I figured that I didn't need to speak with them again.

Right, but the dealer wants $1250 for just timing belt and water pump. (See post #16).

By the way, they gave me the quote on the harmonic balancer. Note that this installation would be done separately from all the other work, so there is labor cost associated with taking a few things apart to get to the balancer.
The part cost is $325, and I verified that this is indeed the actual list cost from Lexus. The labor cost is 1.5 hours @$90/hour. So, with tax, the estimate is $485. (By the way, the Lexus dealer labor cost is $95/hour).

I like the idea of getting more quotes, but I am not sure who to go to.
For instance, I tend not to go to chain outfits because I sense that they just try to run customers through like cattle and constantly up-sell. While the quotes at Craig's Autometrics seem to be high, they seem to be able to legitimately identify problems and propose a range of solutions without hard-selling any work. (Maybe their high rates give them enough profit to not have to up-sell all the time.
Also, I don't feel comfortable going to just any garage down the street.
So, maybe I should fish around for a few more reputable shops and use them for alternate quotes.
