Default Vibration

Hey guys I was on a one hour trip today on the highway and I noticed when I go 70 to 80MPH the car has a slight vibration and I can feel it in the drivers seat, next to my feet and slightly on the steering wheel (steering wheel does not shake I just feel the cars vibration) . When I go over 80 it still does it but not as noticeable. Any ideas thanks you for input from you guru's.

ill assume you checked tire pressure, so balance is certainly a strong possibility.

have your tires checked out. they could be cupped. also check alignment.

I would say check wheel balance, check alignment, maybe warped rotors, maybe bent control arm, bent rim, or last maybe your front suspension (spring or strut) is going bad. I noticed my car also had vibration and pulling to the right issues after buying used tires and rims from my buddy. I took it in for a balance and alignment and the service tech said my rims were slightly bent and I might still have vibration issues even thou they did there best to balance the wheels and it may pull to right or left due to tires worn in on the inside, due to my buddy having lots of camber when he had them on his lowered LS. Anyways, despite these issues, the pulling was resolved and the vibration was very little. Now, I just bought new Falken tires, all four, and now have noticed the vibration again. It was balanced when I got the tires, but I figure I might need to get another alignment now with the new tires. I'm going to lower my car within the next two weeks with coilovers, so I will wait to get the alignment, once I lower her.

Cupped is the pattern the tire is worn, not exactly sure how it looks, but been told has to do with your suspension (spring / strut) going bad.

Cupped tires will have random depressions in the thread, it will look like someone took a 4" grinder with a sanding disc and ground depressions in the tire. A little hard to give a good explanation, but if you see it once you will know what they are talking about. It is generally caused by bad shocks (struts) not controlling the rebound.

One other test, that has not been mentioned yet, is to rotate the tires. While you have the tires off, pay very close attention to the wear patterns of EACH tire. If anything looks funny, take a couple pictures. Wear patterns can give you insight on the condition of your suspension.

couldn't have explained it better. if they are cupped, you should get new tires. and like the others said, have an entire check of your suspension...rotors/struts especially.

good luck.

most likely its a bent wheel or out of balance wheel+tire ~70mph is the most revealing speed for that. no one travels 70 mph in NJ, only 65 max, so what's the problem? :-)

cupped tires? no

besides bent or worn out suspension/steering parts, the other main thing is axle problems, and sticking or frozen calipers. could also be engine/trans related.
pretty much order of frequency from most to least in this post of mine.

Rotation..did you just recently rotate and then experienced this problem?

Default Vibration 70-80 MPH

I have the same vibration at 70-80 MPH.My ES 300 has 240,000 miles.

We I apply Brakes just slighly it goes away. When i release the brakes it comes back.

Is it struts, or steering knuckles?

I replaced lower control arms amd ball joints. It still has the vibration???
Help????

tom you might have a few problems, cant be specific without inspecting your car. you have to check the brakes, axles, and the rest of the suspension out.

OK I checked my tires front and rear and they look pretty new still and dont show any cupping at all. So im going to get the rims and tires balanced on saturday and have my friend check the rims while he balances them to see any if any are bent.
