random dash problems
hey my dad's got a 93 es, as most of you might know. but like the radio unit is having HUGE problems.
1) the volume control has somethin wrong with the spring. so it's really wierd when turning the volume up and down
2) i can't turn it off because of that
3) the buttons are starting to stick and becoming hard to push down (i think WD-40 might help)
4) the lights are slowly dying
5) the cup holder has no spring anymore, so we have to keep it out 24/7
6) some gauge pointers are out of fluid and don't light up anymore, so i have no clue about rpm's and engine temp.
i think that's it. if there's any more, i'll post later.
if anyone has had these problems before or knows a place somewhere near dallas or plano, tx that might be able to do some of the radio work for a decent price, drop a line.

grab a new radio...
just grab a new aftrmarket deck, The sound is a lot better and you will not have to pay a lot for the radio like you would with the lexus radio.

yep, it's probably cheaper to get an aftermarket double DIN radio and nicer too. as for the gauge needles, i think just about everyone's is out or going out. ROLL CALL: who's gauge needles are going out???? my 95's is partially there...the tach and speedometer needles have sections blacked out.

needles
This is a serious problem with the Denzo guages.
My 93es overheated and because I couldn't see the needles in the afternoon sun, I blew the engine. I have lost faith in the Lexus replacement needles and have opted to rebuild my needles.
This is what I am doing....I found a hobbyshop that specialize in electronics. They make use of the services of someone who builds LED's into cell phones. This guy has quoted me (on the exchange rate the equivalent of) $30.
He is fitting these small flush mounted LED's to my needles and I think it will be a lot more reliable than the Lexus original.
I will try to post a few photos when I get them back.

looking back up a bit, is a putting in a new stereo head unit difficult? Any compatibility issues, or wiring problems? A simple adapter is all that's required?
I'm graduating in about a week and I've got some money coming in.

I heard that it is really hard to take out the needles and that it can mess up a lot things bey because they are spring mounted or something.

Taking out needles
Taking the needles out are relatively straight forward. You have to be carefull when you put them back that you don't push them in too deep, but you can feel how deep & hard you can push. Something else to take note of is to be carefull on the circuits. When I took mine in, the guys insisted on checking the circuits and somehow I think they short-circuited something which fed back to the ABS/AIR BAG and now my ABS/AIR BAG lights on the dash stay on all the time. Who knows what this can cost to fix....I just traded my one problem for another.

No, fortunately only the lights. I am still trying to find out if it could be a fuse or relay...
I am going for the first fitting this week-end to make sure that everything is as it should be...
