Default Change Water Pump 90K?

Hey all:

I have a 2003 ES300, getting the timing belt replaced next week, car just rolled 90K, and I'm aware many have their water pumps replaced simultaneously; but my mechanic said I could possibly hold off on that, and just replace it with next belt change.

What's you're recommendations. I don't mind paying to have it changed, but if the lifespan typically goes to around 150-180K, then I'll wait.

Thanks!

I would never change a timing belt without changing water pump too. Also change crank and cam seals, and tensioner. It is cheap insurance on any engine. Do you feel comfortable with a water pump with 180K on it?

That's just the thing, I didn't know if I "should" feel comfortable waiting until 180K, but it sounds like a no. I just didn't know if it was one of those instances where say a water pump can go beyond 200K with no problems, or if they typically go out much sooner.

Thanks for your input though, it will help me in making a decision. I tend to be paranoid about things, and probably would have done it anyway, but I didn't want to just do it, if it weren't necessary yet.

I guess I came to the right place for an answer, Thanks!

1: T-Belt
2: Water Pump
3: Tensioner
4: Cam (2) and crank seals
5: Radiator Hoses
6: Thermostate/Gasket

The reason I say Thermostate and Radiator hoses is that the the coolant will already be out of the engine. So yo umay as well do them if they are original.

Definitely do the water pump and all tensioners and pulleys. I let the tensioners and pulleys go and 5-6 months later had to pay all the labor again to have them repaced. Was an expensive lesson to learn on trying to save a few bucks, cost me a lot more in the long run...

if youre going to have the timing cover off anyway to do the belt, why not just spring for the waterpump, tensioner, cam seals and crank seals? youll be kicking yourself in the *** if that waterpump goes up 10k after you do just the belt.
