HID install..factory socket connector..loose bulb
So I am installing an aftermarket HID kit on the 99 ES300. It all works great except for one thing. The bulb does not fit tightly in the headlight housing. The OEM bulb has a black adapter on it that allows the spring in the housing to hold it tightly in the socket. The HID kit will not allow this socket adapter to go on the bulb. I'm sure I am not the first person with this problem but couldn't find another post on it. Anyone have any ideas?

you have to 'make it work'.
The little plastic o-ring that holds the hid bulb in the plastic case form the hid kit retial box, is what i used
I cut it and made it into a smaller circle.
Hard to explain, and I sure as hell ain't taking those bulbs out again until i have to...
And of course i siliconed them a bit to make it sit.
And one more thing i had to do was modify the metal bracket for the bulb so it would push against it more. Just a bend forward a little.
With HID's in these cars you have to get a bit creative!

I had the same issue. I cut a slightly larger hole in the black rubber grommet so the bulb would fit snugly and the spring could latch shut and hold it in place.

Like i said, i wish i could, but it is freaking cold, if anything wait around with them and would be able to in the spring... But that is a couple months away, already fiddled with changing a burnt out bulb in my dad's RX330 a few weeks back in -20 Celsius weather, no thanks! lol

well this is what i did NOT THE GREATEST way, i just slid the black rubber all the way up then put the metal bracket over it it was a tight fit, but i dont think it is as good as others idea, but it worked

Thanks everybody. Got it to work by trimming the plastic washer that came with it and bending the spring a little bit. I'm very impressed with the beam pattern. I am used to my 08 SLK and these lights are very similar. Hopefully I have a good enough kit for them to keep working.
