Unhappy please help me. my car is having issues.

hey everyone!

so i am new to this but i have a few questions. i have a 99 lexus es300 and my fiance and i have been working on this thing for three weeks now and we can not find the problem. so i was hoping that maybe someone could help. this is whats goin on. my check engine light comes on and goes off and it will start to run like crap. it bogs down when you are driving and it will start to chug like its almost geting to much fuel. and when you put it in nutral or park the idle will go up to 2500 to 3000. and when you turn it off it chugs like the timing is off. but then it will quit every once in a while and drive like normal. since this has started i have lost alot of power. now i have replaced the air fuel sensor closest to the fire wall, and i have changed the air flow meter cause those codes came up. as well as the spark plugs. now it is coming up as a random missfire when i plug it in to the computer. also i just changed the oil cause the lexus dealer said it was coming up with the code due to the oil. i checked the timing and it is only off by under five degrees on the front pully on the front cam for 1,3,5 cylinders. (if i was told corectly that 1,3,5 are in the front of the motor) there is a quiet ticking noise right on the other side of the front pully right before the number one cylinder. if you have any advice please help cause i do not know where to go from here. anything helps. thank you for your time.

Welcome to the site fellow Washingtonian.

O2 sensors? Mine had a problem where it hesitated a lot and almost had no power for about a minute after a warm start. But after that minute it drove perfectly from there on out. I replaced an O2 sensor and cleaned my PCV valve and now my car runs and idles perfectly.

Were your old plugs leaned out or fouled? Also reset your ECU. For the Legends you pull the alternator fuse for 20 seconds then put it back in. But you might have to disconnect the battery for about an hour to reset yours.

Welcome to the Club.

What were the specific codes brought up?

The flashing check engine light is characteristic in misfire situations along with the other things you describe.

vacuum leak I'm thinking is the cause. common causes are intake manifold, air intake hose, or as others have said bad leak of crankcase vapors like a bad PCV.

but, like they said I say, and also, what are you talking about the timing is off on the front cam for the cylinder 1 3 5 ???????? ellaborate and be clear, please.

can even be bad battery or cables.

let us know the ans to our q's.-

check for engine sludge in the process of this.

When wilson motors hooked up the computer they told me that there is a random missfire on cylinders 1,3 and 5. I am not sure exactly what they ment. I also had the oil changed as well and they said the oil looked fine. I have also changed the pcv valve and i got my power back but it is still running the same. They also told me that it may be a gear on the outside of the front cam that advances and retards my motor and it may be getting stuck. So i took off the timing cover and there is nothing there but i did hear a slight ticking on cylinder number one. I hope this helps answer your questions. I am at my wits end with this car and i do not know what to do any more.
