I own a 1997 lexus es 300. I was driving the car and made a complete stop at the red light. My mph guage went to 140 and my check engine light came on. I hit the emergency lights thinking i just blew my transmission, so i hit the emergency lights. After the light turned green my car continued to run again, and i drove it 20 miles home and had no problem. Does anyone know why the engine light is still on?

The reason why i thought my transmission went out was because i used to own a 1997 camry le and when my guage went to 140 and the engine light came on. My car wouldn't start after, and i had to switch out the transmission.
