Wow,mine did that and Im at 188,000 miles.98 as well.Mine stumbled a few times then blew a plug out.I got home after it sounded like a steam engine all the way?(I feared it was toasted).Got it back and the entire coil pack was melted and plug was shot.It dropped the bottom half of the plug into the cylinder.I found some new heads because the where the plug went in...well it was flat with no threading, lol. But the new heads to the cost of a motor......eh I just sent the car in to get a 70,??? mile motor.Awaiting it.Getting every gasket new, every hose and belt new,all timing components new and letting em install. Before had the CEL on but no TRAC light.Awaiting to see when it returns.looking at 2,500$ for all work.Be back in the next week,we'll see.Stumbled bad tho a few times but then just shot the plug.SUCKED!!!!!!I checked the trans when I changed filter and fluid, minimal shavings. Not bad for getting the car given as a wedding present.

NOPE! I have a 98 ES300 as well and I just changed mine.....Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the one between the firewall & engine.....I found out the hard way (I ended up changing both because of that mistake)..........

Ouch. I'm not really up for that nightmare! lol.

Still struggling guys. Had this same issue with a 71 Honda Dream motorcycle. Could I be looking at a timing issue? Car runs flawless other than my dead stop stumble.

You are correct sir. I went ahead and changed both. Bank 1 Sensor 1 o2 was "welded" to the manifold. An hour and some PBBlast got it out.
