New Struts and mounts but still loud noises. Why?
I just replaced all 4 struts with monroe's as well as the monroe strut mounts and bearings front and rear. The rears are quiet now but the fronts still make loud clunking sound when going over washboard style bumps. I used the FSM for the install of the parts and everything is torqued properly.
Any suggestions. I have searched and it seems that OEM mounts are the way to go but because of budget restrictions I used monroe mounts. car has 250k.
Is there something i may have overlooked or is it really poor desing of mounts? Has anyone used monroe strut mounts before?

I had this problem and I replaced my struts with Monroe quick struts, replaced the sway bar bushings with energy suspension bushings, and replaced the sway bar links. Each step reduced the noise but in the end there was still more noise than I thought there should be. This next part is the nutty part. After getting going through an automatic car wash that cleaned the bottom of the car, the noise was reduced to unnoticeable levels. If I concentrate I can still hear the noise. Is that crazy or what? I'm just happy to be rid of the noise.

The bushings and all the other replaceable/wearable suspension components always bear replacement, but there's no denying that, over the past several years in the ES forum, we get complaint after complaint regarding noise with the non-Toyota strut mounts. Based on the data trends, they're worth the few extra dollars.

Thanks guys, I will look into the bushings and end links for the front next. Replaced the end links in the rear and most of the noise is gone except for drivers side. The fronts sound aweful though. Its like the whole strut is just knocking around inside the fender.

When I had my 00 ES at Lexus to get my timing belt they told me my rear sway bar bushings were shot. I do notice some clunking as well over certain types of bumps. Does anyone know where the best place to get new bushings is? OEM or aftermarket whatever you guys recommend.
Thanks,
James
