01LEXPL,
If youre going to use up all that time to do a retro, id suggest not doing any of the e39/46/55 projector setups. They are extremely weak compared to other stock hid projectors. cutoff is fuzzy, lighting width is short, light loss with open projector is significantly high as well.

Yes, i have been hearing the same results for FX projectors as well. Very commonwith lens swaps as well. But you can never go wrong with s2k/ap1 projectors or sc430 projectors as well. Tl is very nice as well, but i only have experience with sc430/e30 clear lens setup. It is quite beautifully at night. So much more output than just about all stock hid projector setups.

While we are on subject for retrofits, even though my 2000 ES has OEM autolevelling HID's I could still easily do a retrofit but I have a question. I noticed sometimes when going over a bump I can see the beam shake a little. I know this is common but if I can see it relatively easily with a non-projector cutoff I would imagine it would be pretty bad with a projector that has a super sharp cutoff. I wonder if the play is in the autolevelling mechanism or the bulb holder itself.
I wouldnt mind tackling a projector retrofit would be pretty cool along with the autolevel.

No thats what would be really cool about it is to keep the autolevel system. I see what your saying and why to get rid of it but I think thats an awesome feature (and it looks cool when you start the car when they move lol). I guess if I were to look into it more I could probably find out where the extra play is without too much trouble. Its either gotta be the bulb holders or the aiming mechanism. Anyway, it could be a cool project however I will say for these headlights not being projectors I am very impressed with the output.

Here's what i'm thinking. The current OEM autoleveler probably would not be able to hold the weight of a projector & shround, as all it holds now is a bulb that weighs nothing.
My realistic suggestion is to get the RX330/350 headlights with AFS And retrofit those into your current housings. This way they will retain the up/down function. I'm not sure if the side-side movement would work [as there's probably sensors for that].
