Default Oil Change Problems

I just purchased a 2001 Lexus ES 300 with 101,000 miles on it. It's my first Lexus hehhe.. and it's the smoothest car ever, i swear.

Ok the car manual tells me to get an oil change every 5000 miles.

But my buddy has owned Lexus cars in the past. He is telling me to change it every 3000 miles which is standard for 75 percent of cars on the road.

Does anyone know the right answer? Thanks in advance!

Oil is cheap. IMHO it's better to change it sooner than later.

Just follow the owner's manual recommendation.

the color of the oil. if its yellow-honey colored your good, if its more towards dark yellow-brown-ish then you should change asap!

My father had a 2003 ES300, same engine, maybe slightly revised, the car took I think 5 quarts, and after 5000 miles on regular oil, the oil still looked like it only had 1000-2000 miles on it.

if the color starts to appear dark when you wipe the dipstick on the paper towel, then i replace it. after many years, you can tell a lot by the color, touch and smell of the fluids in the car

You can't tell the oil quality but its colour.
The only true way to determine the oil quality is to have it analyzed.
Just stick with what the owners manual said (i.e. 5000 miles).

Exactly, I wouldn't go more than 3k on dino oil in these things though, run a full syn class IV oil like mobil one EP and a quality filter aka not fram. Then go 7500 if u wish. I just changed both valve cover gaskets and at 112k it looks wonderful inside bank one and two after 50k of m1 at 7500 intervals. I'm completely sold. But yeah color means nothing.
