Got some wheels for free - spacers ok?
I have a buddy that took some 18" wheels off of his Mercedes (put on some 22's) and gave them to me, complete with tires, the only thing is the back tires rub against the strut support and they need lower profile tires he says. They will also need a 1/2" spacer on the back in order to fit properly. He's got connections as he buys and sells used classic cars and can get me brand new tires for around $120 a piece, which is a good price for me, I'm just wondering if it's worth it to put them on the ES? Will 1/2" spacers cause issues? I love the way they look and can't pass up free wheels, I just don't want anything going crazy in the back.

you will get mixed opinions here, but i have been running 15mm spacers in the rear for a while now with no problems. they are the bolt-on type. you should get lower profile tires especially if you're dropped because of rubbing issues.

Sammm, thanks for the input. We had a guy that works for my friend put them on just to test fit and without setting it back down, they (the tires) rub a back strut mount. Now I'm worried about the front rubbing when I turn.. Hmm. As for adapters, they actually bolted right up, is that odd? My friend was surprised by this, but they bolted up ok, they just need spacers and a lower profile tire my pal says.
BTW, anyone have any clue as to the brand of these things?
Thanks again for the replies.

^^ then the only other logical thing i can think of is that your friend was running a 5x114.3 wheel with 'wobble bolts'. Since MB doesn't have a stud [well German cars] they use bolts, so its easier to substitute that wheel instead.
Best thing to do is flip the rim around and see what is stamped behind the spokes/in the hub surface area.
It should state PCD, ET, etc...
