Default Aftermarket Sub

So I'm thinking about installing an amp/aftermarket sub in my 99 ES300. I currently have a 8" sub in a box hooked up to the existing sub output in the stock system. Just needs more oomph.

I want to get a 10" sub and an amp. Will I need to bypass the stock amp or can I just amp the sub through the existing output? Or will I need a line output converter? I've done some searching and have only found people who have wanted to bypass the stock amp when adding a new head unit.

I want to keep the stock deck, CD changer, and speakers; just want to add a sub.

Yeah, I'm currently looking at a PAC Line Output Converter to convert the signal.

Buying a JL Audio 500W amp and a Alpine Type-R 10".

Just picked up my amp and sub today, and tried to hook it up.

But, I tried of almost an hour to try to find a way to get the power wire from the engine bay through the firewall. How/where did you guys with subs do it? I've tried looking under the drivers side dash, but to no avail; my power wire currently isn't long enough to go around the passenger side.

Any help/pictures would be appreciated!

I need to know this as well. I've got a JL 500/1 amp and a JL 10W7 sub in the JL Prowedge enclosure I need to get into the trunk of my 2000 ES300. I haven't looked yet, but where do we run the 4 gauge power wire from the battery through the firewall? I'm also curious where to connect the 12v remote on/off wire. I'm guessing we'll find something in the fuse box that turns on/off with the ignition...

Took some time and just stuck my head into the engine bay to look around. I eventually found a way to do it.

There is a plastic grommet on the driver side wheel well that leads to the inside of the fender. Feed the power wire into here, and it will come out inside of the fender. I removed part of the fender lining to access the inside of the fender, then fed it through a rubber boot that led into the cabin. It comes out in the top left of the driver's side footwell, under the carpet trim piece that is removable.

It helps to have 2 people for this part; one person should feed it through the fender and the other person to pull it through into the cabin. It's a bit tricky getting the wire through the hole inside the cabin, but it works great once you get it. From there, just feed it under the door sills to the trunk and you're good to go!

I had the exact same amp-sub setup like that before. What kind of box are you going to use for your Type-R? I had a ported box that was stuffed and it was good, You should get the remote bass control for the amp as well.

Maxx941 - Did you run the power wire for the amp in the location QuachmanES described above? Is your ES300 a 2000?

Really? I was in my footwell staring at the firewall for like half an hour and couldn't see any openings.

Correction, I sent it through where the steering comes through and poked a hole through the rubber to send amp wire through, just went and checked. Been a few years since I did it.
