Default Ripped my bumper off FML...

Just about an hour ago (around 8:30 pm) in my 2001 es I was backing out of a friends driveway and there is a fire hydrant placed right next to it. It was pitch black and I started turning and I basically ripped my bumper off. The black metal support was ripped off the two screws holding it off as the hydrant got hooked on. There was a large empty white container on the right side that looks like it connected to the filter but I honestly have no idea what it is for, I don't believe or hope that it is the coolant but there is a container on the top left of the engine bay with coolant written on it. I have no idea what I should do right now. I almost cried when I heard the ripping and saw the bumper in front of me as I got the car for Christmas. What should I do? My parent's are going to have a better look at it in the morning.

ouch, sounds like you ripped off the bumper support, which IIRC is tied to the rad support, so you may have bent that too...

The bottle is wierd, i honestly don't know what purpose it serves, i think its connected to the air filter as a 'intake tube' almost.

GL!

Damn, that sounds nasty! Well, you should be able to get a better idea of the full extent of the damage in the morning. Get back to us with an update and some pics if you have any. If it was my ES, I wouldn't be sleeping too well tonight!

sorry to hear man....
the bottle is the resonator for the air intake. Its to keep the noise of the intake system down.

Part out?

Or are you fixing it?

I figured it was the bumper support, and it probably bent the hell out of the rad support by pulling on it.

Well, assuming the car isn't being totaled, and insurance will be covering it, correct?

^^ To my knowledge it most likely would be, no?

From what i gather, is that USA insurance firms always look into the future sale of the vehicle/value... So most likely than not they will deem it as a 'totaled car'. I mean the 00-01 ES's currently fetch 8k at most, and those are the examples of Florida cars with <50k miles on them. Otherwise i see these for cheap all the time.

Correct me if i'm wrong though. Canadian firms simply mark it as totaled if it exceeds a certain percentage of current market value.

Its weird since i have seen tons of near-new USA cars being imported into Canada due to this US system. Ie. A fender bender M3 from 2009 will be written off, since the resale will be squat once rebuilt/fixed in the States, making it more 'profitable' for reselling here, by taking the hit on the rebuilt title, but the buyer will save a significant amount on the purchase.
