Default ES250 advice and opinions

I will be getting a chance to pick up a 1990 ES250. I helped a friend locate a replacement car for her mom, and she said she would give me first dibs on the Lexus.

She is the 2nd owner and it has 80,000 miles. Everything works and I believe it has a pretty good service history. I have not seen the car in person, but knowing this family I bet it is very clean. I believe its white. Not sure what year they bought it, but they have had it for a long time.

Since there were not many of the ES250s built, there is not alot of information out there. However, I have been told that this engine is bullet proof. Is that correct, is this a good motor? I know this is a 20 yr. old car, and things will break and wear items will need to be replaced. Also, considering the car is in good shape and maintained, what is it worth? She did mention that her mother took it to the dealership for an oil leak and they charged her 3k. She said it still leaks a little oil.

Any comments or advice appreciated.

I have never met a Toyota that did not leak oil. Old cars will leak oil, its a fact of life. Get one leak, you need to replace all the seals...otherwise it will find a new hole. Trust me.

The es250 is basicly a Camry v6 dressed up for prom. The Es250 is an awsome car, you will need to change the timing belt, water pump and oil pump. I hear the bearings on these motors can be really touchy...but other than that you can expect 200k + out of this car.

I would jump at the chance to get my hands on a 80k ES250.

And to boot, my 91 Es250 on bad tires and a jacked up alignment drives better than my 2006 Altima SE. Get the Lexus.
