My stock speakers died out on me
Hey guys,
Two of my speakers just died out on me...the right front door speaker, and the right dash speaker. so the only speaker that i have left in the right front is the tweeter in the sail mount. i've never heard this happening before.....kicking the door didn't work (from the inside of course). i'm so sad that i lost my......two speakers. anyone know what's up? thanks

you might have lost a connection. take off the door panel and check to see if they are still connected. you take off the door panel by... unhooking the clips all around the door panel. the where the door handle is, you have to unscrew that part and remove the plastic that is around the door handle. then, pull it out. lift the carpet area in the cubby hole in the arm rest of the door handle. take that screw out. take the screw out that is behind the cover on the wide flast space that is usually covered when the door is closing (closest to the engine) then lift the entire door panel up and remove it. check to see that everything on the inside is connected alright. let me know what happens

premium?
how good are the stock speakers anyway? I know it's no Bose system or anything like that, but they've gotta be decent right?
but you have to remember, power really dosen't make a good system; matching does.
in the sense of our cars, the output of the amp and speakers are equal resulting in great sound reproduction.
stick in some good quality speakers and an amp and you'll know what a sound system is soppose to be.

I know the stock ES sound system is nothing spectacular, but I love it compared with a lot of other cars. The system in my daily driver is total crap, and also the 'premium' system in my dad's 740iL (with 14 speakers/440 watts) sounds like garbage. The Germans suck at designing sound systems. One more reason to love Lexus.

anyway, yah i was thinking i lost a connection or cable somewhere along the way too. if i open up the door and can't find anything wrong with the cables, i will get a new sound system installed like at circuit city/best buy. if car comes back with those speakers still not working, i'll ask the installer boy, "what's wrong with my new speakers? they're not working..." i would've done it myself (well, TRIED myself) but two speakers dying on me?? it's time to go buy the days lottery. I will tell you what i find/dont find after my waxing is complete...

Haha, cool. Just be a little careful- I've heard some horror stories from my friends about stereo installation at Best Buy.
And yeah, the only German cars with good sound systems are the Mercedes-Benz cars with the Bose systems- but Bose is an American company, I think. Also the VW Monsoon Stereo sounds pretty decent, but again, I don't think Monsoon is German.
