People have been running these engines on regular gas since 1993, and Toyota has blessed it. No problems reported in those 28 years AFAIK! You are chasing down a rabbit-hole trying to imagine an issue with it.

Premium gas in Lexus ES series
I'm looking to buy a 4th Gen Lexus ES300/ES330, and I'm trying to find out what vehicles require premium gas and what don't.
According to the owner's manuals available online from Lexus, the 2002 requires premium gas, and the 2003-2005 do not. The 2006 model year once again requires premium gas.
I've googled a lot (and read many old threads here) about premium gas for this generation of ES, but nobody seems to have a definitive answer for this model year. If you can find an old thread specifically talking about the 2006 ES330 model and regular gas, please let me know.
My question is therefore: Does anyone actually own a 2006 ES330, and if so, have you run it with regular (87 octane) gas for years without any issues? Or did you have issues?
Also, anyone know why 2003-2005 would be listed as regular gas in the owner's manuals, while 2006 is suddenly premium gas? Did they retune the engine? I thought all the ES330 had the same powertrain.

Premium gasoline
I’ve been hearing a lot of different controversies over using premium gas, I have a 2006 Lexus ES 330, I posted here before very low miles on this less than 7000 miles, I went through it changed all the fluids including transmission fluid and brake fluid I did not do the power steering fluid yet.
it’s been running just fine also put a brand new Toyota battery in it a jury is still out about the tires the date on the sidewall of the tires is August 2004 I’m going to have those checked by a professional tire company, but this is my question for the group; when I pop the fuel that it says premium fuel required, I talked to another ES owner that said he’s never put a drop of premium in his car it’s also an 06, and it runs just fine, but the price is nearing four dollars a gallon with premium here in Central Florida I just want professional opinions from people do you think this will hurt the car or are there other premium users that uses regular gas, thank you for your time, Rocky

That is correct. Because the 1MZ-FE and 3MZ-FE have knock sensors, they retard or advance timing based on the octane used in your car. I have used 87 octane on many 1MZ-FE powered vehicles including my 95 Avalon and 99 Solara SE V6. It's ironic because I got the best mileage using 86 octane fuel in higher elevations i.e. Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, West Texas and etc. The best mileage i've ever achieved with the Avalon was 30.2 mpg and 33 mpg with the 5spd Manual Solara. This was all achieved using cruise control at 75mph, constant 70-80 degree temps and the A/C on. Although Premium is "Recommended" it's not required. Although in a performance aspect, the 1MZ-FE is a high compression motor that will benefit from higher octane fuels. 10.5:1 = 1MZ-FE & 10.8:1 3MZ-FE.
